  • At Recess Portraits, we’re all about capturing your kiddo’s true personality! Our photographers are experts at eliciting genuine, heart-melting smiles with fun, silly prompts—say goodbye to awkward grins and stiff poses! Each child receives their moment in the spotlight with professional lighting. Plus, we offer a variety of backgrounds to try out with your favorite photos.

  • We understand—kids can feel shy in front of the camera when it’s time to shine. That’s why we make Photo Day all about fun and laughter! Chat with your child and let them know that Photo Day is an exciting adventure. Remind them to take a deep breath and think of their favorite silly joke if they feel nervous. And hey, practicing those winning poses at home can be a blast—funny faces included!

  • Comfort is key! Allow your child to choose something they adore and feel comfortable in. Solid colors or simple patterns are ideal as they draw attention to their adorable face. Opt for clean necklines like collared shirts or cute dresses, and steer clear of flashy logos or graphics that could detract from their look. Remember—if your school has a dress code, be sure to adhere to it. Let your child’s personality shine through while maintaining a timeless, classic appearance!

  • We recommend natural hairstyles that keep hair away from the face. Also, please use minimal hair accessories to keep the focus on your child's expression.

  • Absolutely! If your school is offering them, sibling photos are a fabulous way to capture those sweet moments between brothers and sisters. Recess Portraits offers complimentary sibling sessions—make sure your school signs up for them. These quick 5-minute sessions (registration is required!) happen during or around school hours. Double the fun, double the smiles!

  • No worries, we’ve got you covered! We encourage each school we partner with to offer a retake day so that no one misses their moment to shine. Life happens, and if your child misses Photo Day, they’ll automatically be rescheduled for a make-up session if it is offered.

After photo day

  • Absolutely! We want you to love what you see. After Photo Day, you’ll receive an email with a secure online proofing gallery to view your child’s photos. There’s no pressure to buy, and we offer a variety of à la carte prints, products, digital options, and cost-saving digital and print packages. There’s something for everyone! Only purchase what makes your heart do a happy dance!

  • You will receive an email granting access to your child’s online proofing gallery within two to three weeks after Photo Day. Hang tight—good things are on the way!

  • No problem at all! If your little one wasn’t quite in the zone on Photo Day, we understand! We offer retakes—just remember that when you sign up for a retake, the original images will be deleted from your proofing gallery. A fresh start, fresh smiles!

  • Ordering is easy and flexible! Once you check out the online proofing gallery, you can order digital and print packages directly from the gallery. There’s no need to commit to anything upfront—buy what you love! We provide high-quality prints, digital downloads, and extra goodies that make perfect keepsakes or gifts.

  • You sure can! We offer a variety of beautiful backgrounds that make your child’s natural expressions stand out. And guess what? Unlike some other companies, we don’t charge extra for these options.

  • Yes. However, packages with a single image or pose are limited to one background choice.

  • Due to privacy concerns, we don’t offer a digital version of the class photo—only printed versions are available. Digital files can be easily shared or posted online, and since class photos feature multiple children, we want to be extra cautious about protecting everyone's privacy. Printed versions provide families with a keepsake without the added risk of widespread digital distribution.

  • Nope! We use an AI-generated watermark to protect our work during proofing, but rest assured—no watermarks will appear on any digital downloads or prints you purchase. Your photos will be crystal clear and free of watermarks!

  • We want you to be thrilled with your photos! While digital sales are final, if you're not satisfied with your print order, contact us HERE, and we'll work our magic to make things right. Rest assured that we're here to ensure your satisfaction.

  • Don’t miss out! Proofing galleries for Fall Photo Days will be archived on December 31. For Spring Photo Days, the galleries will be archived on June 30. Make sure to place your order before that!

  • Absolutely, you can! Register with Recess HERE to conveniently view all of your children’s active galleries in one place.

  • We believe in keeping it real! That’s why we minimize retouching and focus on your child’s natural beauty. We may make small adjustments for lighting or color correction, but we aim to preserve your child’s authentic self. If you have specific concerns, you can purchase additional retouching through our online store, and we’ll reach out to discuss your needs.

  • Yes! You can crop your photos directly in your shopping cart—just remember to save your changes before checking out!

  • Absolutely! You can choose from black-and-white, sepia, or other photo effects. Just select an image in your cart, click on Crop & Edit Photo, choose Photo Effect, and remember to save it!

  • Click the link in your order confirmation email to check your status, or log in to your account here.
